Pedals of Kindness
I pedalled through the lush green forest of the Dooars, nestled in the Himalayan foothills. Cycling is like yoga to me—bracing and refreshing. They say an hour of exercise adds three hours to one's life, and I bet they are right.
The evening breeze carried a slight chill, and gigantic trees lined the road like guardians of nature. I could sense each breath, feeling my presence meld with the surroundings.
As I rode and wandered in my thoughts, a motorbike slowly appeared in my peripheral vision, coasting alongside me. A family graced my view: a little girl perched behind a man—presumably her father—and a young lady holding onto the girl. The trio rode happily together.
The girl waved her hand as they approached as if inviting a high five. Her gesture overwhelmed me with a rush of warmth.
It was odd to be a lone cyclist in such remote surroundings. As I rode along, I observed people’s reactions.
Surprised by the gesture, I waved quickly in return. The girl’s smile encouraged me, and joy gushed through my body. Her kindness touched me. Her father raised the bike, swiftly passing me by.
I enjoyed the surprising yet sweet interaction with the stranger.
This evening ride taught me an invaluable lesson: to embrace people with kindness.
No matter where life leads you, remember, that the journey is always beautiful.
